Experience
The notion that only those born with inherent intellectual talent are capable of reaching academic success is a myth. Just like athletics or any other skill, if a student puts enough time and practice into a subject, they will succeed no matter what level the student begins at. I am currently a graduate student at Cleveland State University majoring in Electrical Engineering. I had many memorable experiences during my time at CSU, but none compared to my time working as a tutor. I had the opportunity to work at two different tutoring positions simultaneously through the university, both teaching math. During this time, I accumulated experience teaching students how to take the SAT, CSU placement exams, and the ACT. I also worked in the CSU Math department, teaching math concepts to high school students. I helped them prepare for the Ohio State Proficiency Test. Just like language, mathematics adheres to systems of rules, just like grammar. I try to teach my students this system of rules, while also making sure they understand the underlying concepts behind these rules. They have to understand why the rule is in place, as it's not enough to simply memorize the rules themselves. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy practicing Jiu jets.
